Campania is one of Italy's jewels with a mountainous, green landscape, a volcanic past and to some degree present. Its coastline and in particular the Sorrento Peninsula, is as dramatic and attractive as they come and it includes the islands of Capri, Ischia and Procida.

Its Mediterranean style climate is warm and sunny and ideal for the growing of oranges, lemons and the grapes that go into the many wines that are on offer.

Naples which is the capital of the Campania region, is a large city steeped in history and culture and can offer a feast of things to see and do including shopping, eating out in restaurants plus archaeological museums, and opera performances at the prestigious Teatro San Carlo. The archaeological sites at Pompeii, Herculaneum and Paestum are three of the world's greatest and should no be missed. Then there is and the volcano that devastated the city of Pompeii, Mount Vesuvius.

Campania also has some great beaches and those along the Amalfi coast south of Salerno will be to your liking - they are clean, clear and not too crowded.
There are some beautiful towns along the Amalfi coast too including Positano, Amalfi, Ravello and Salerno.

Offshore we have the island of Capri, a fashionable place that was rediscovered by northern Europeans including George Bernard Shaw, Graham Greene and Gracie Fields with sights to see that include the Blue Grotto and the Villa Jovis.
Ischia is also a stunning place to visit - a large rock soaring from the sea with a thermal spa resort in Casamicciola Terme.

South of the city of Benevento lies the Cilento coast, with the Cilento and Vallo di Diano National Park - this is the second largest region of its kind in Italy and a protected UNESCO World Heritage Sight.
