The Centre region of France or the "Heart of France" includes part of the Loire Valley and consequently the Loire River, France's longest river (over 1000km), which flows from its source in the mountains south of Saint-Etienne to the Atlantic. It has always been very wealthy thanks to the fertility of the land. The river is considered to be the dividing line between the cold north and warmer south and the région itself is mostly temperate.

This is a region of impressive chateaux, hunting lodges and cathedrals and is often visited by those with an interest in Medieval and Renaissance architecture. With its flat terrain, it is popular with walkers and cyclists or just to simply spend lazy days picnicking by the river's edge. There are many lakes and small rivers and the fertile landscape is covered with lush woodland and orchards.

The Centre Region was once the epicenter of French royalty. It includes Notre Dame de Chartres (in the village known as the Stained Glass Capital of the World). Not unlike many other regions of France, it is also a wonderful destination to experience fine cuisine, wine and art.

It has been totally renovated whilst retaining all of its original features.

The delightful market town of La Châtre was once a Roman camp or ‘ceastra’ from which it gets its name. There are one or two vestiges such as the Roman bridge that crosses the river Indre. There are also numerous wonderful medieval buildings in the centre, which leads to the market place where the Saturday market with dozens of stalls is a definite must to visit.
