The Le Marche region of Italy will deliver to you, lots of beautiful natural countryside and beaches, villages and fascinating hilltop towns but without the numbers of tourists that throng the more popular parts of Italy.

There are some great beach resorts in the region, headed by Pesaro which is an interesting town and has about 8 km of sandy beaches some of which is bordered by towering cliffs.
The road from Gabicce Mare to Pesaro passes through many picturesque fishing towns perched high on steep cliffs above the Adriatic.

The western section of the region is limestone country and as such, is an area of high peaks and deep gorges with caves carved out by the many underground waterways. On the coastal plain you will find olive groves and many vineyards which produce Verdicchio, a local wine that goes very well with the many seafood dishes of the region.

The Frasassi Caves - found in the Gola della Rossa-Frasassi national park, this is a series of limestone caves with a huge, spectacular central chamber. This is also a place where you will see eagle owls, falcons and golden eagles.
Monte Conero a huge limestone stack that rises several hundred metres out of the sea.
San Leo - found in the north of the region, is a defensive fortress that clings to high ground and which proved to be impregnable to its invaders.
There are many musical festivals and events on offer throughout the summer months which include open air opera, jazz and classical music.
