Locality (close to: Grantown on Spey)
"Failte" is situated in the picturesque village of Grantown-on-Spey and is only a few minutes walk from the local shops, hotels and restaurants, and from the river Spey.
It is ideally located for many activities and for a relaxing and refreshing holiday.
You can tour the Scottish Highlands, follow the Whisky Trail, go hill walking in the beautiful Scottish mountains, go fishing, play golf, or indulge in winter sports activities and in the evenings you can relax in front of a real fire, or have a barbecue in the garden.
Grantown-on-Spey
A local landowner, Sir James grant laid out Grantown on the wooded banks of the river Spey in 1776. He planned it as a centre of the Highland Linen industry, but it became one of Scotland's leading inland holiday resorts, and centre of the Whisky Trail.
It is a town of broad streets, and most of its older buildings are of granite.
The Spey and its tributary, the Dulnain, are world renowned salmon and trout streams, and the slopes of the Cairngorm Mountains outside the town draw skiers and mountaineers from all over Britain.
Much of Speyside is mixed woodland and it is one of the last remnants of the ancient forest of Caledon that once covered the whole of Scotland
Higher up the slopes you will find many species of wildflowers beneath the heather moors.
Bird watchers can catch a glimpse of the Ospreys and their young nesting in the Abernethy Forest near Loch. Garten.
Golfing enthusiasts are well catered for - there is an excellent local course, and a further 6 courses in Badenoch and Strathspey District.
From Grantown excursions north to Inverness and the Black Isle, west to Loch Ness and Fort William or east to Aberdeen and Balmoral are all within a day's drive.
