Stay in a spectacular setting in the wooded hills of the Serra de Sintra, a World Heritage site, overlooking the Atlantic coast. Casa do Celeiro is a restored ruin designed by the St. Georges, retired architects, now working full-time as artists.

The Main House(cottage) has two twin bedded rooms upstairs which share a bathroom and a double bedded room on the ground floor with another bathroom in adjoining hall.
The annex across the courtyard has a double bed with bathroom ensuite.
The ground floor of the cottage has an eat-in kitchen (8) with cooker / microwave / fridge - freezer / dishwasher / washing machine / iron & ironing board.
The kitchen is linked by an arch to the living room which has a wood burning fireplace,TV satelite - DVD player, piano and seating for 6
The cottage is excellent for a family of 6 or 3 couples.
The annex is ideal for a couple enabling a larger group of 8.
All rooms have night storage heaters and the annex has a wood burning stove additionally.
The house is comfortably rustic with many idiosyncracies and although not totally child proof is extremely stimulating and exciting for children (as well as adults!).
No smoking in the house please.

Cot / BBQ / Pool / large sit-in greenhouse on upstairs level of cottage which is useful for hanging clothes and a quiet read / two bikes on premises for guests’ use / wireless broadband internet connection available
Cleaning: Sheets, duvets, towels provided / cleaning lady weekly

There is an 8m round swimming pool with furniture at the top of the property which is accessible from upstairs greenhouse and stone steps at the side of the house.
In front of the house opposite the main entrance is a stone terrace covered with pergola (grapevines). This is a perfect area for BBQ, sunning and relaxing.
Steps lead from this terrace to a garden with lawn and fruit trees.
There are panoramic views of the sea, the nearest village and fields from both the pool area and the front terrace.

Mary (BA - History of Art / Dip Arch / MA - International Ed / Higher Degree in Painting & Etching) was Head of Art at St. Julian’s School in Portugal. Alan (AA Dip RIBA) paints watercolours and designs and makes sculpture and jewelry.
Tuition in drawing and painting caters to student ability.
Studio work is balanced with trips out to local sites.
3 hours sessions are offered in 5 week modules.

Alan & Mary exhibit regularly in Portugal and abroad.
B & B and Self-Catering guests are welcome to take part in the art courses.
There is also an etching workshop.
They should speak to the owners when they book.

Learn a 500 year old printing technique in comfortable and relaxed surroundings in an etching workshop in Colares.
An experienced artist and teacher, Mary St. George, is running lessons in Dry Point and Etching, two techniques involving preparing copper plates, drawing, inking and printing.
This is an exciting medium which requires a little curiousity and a love of drawing, working with inks and creating original prints.

Sintra is full of historic buildings and gardens as well as sumptuous private farms called ’quintas’.
Lord Bryon wrote about the unique beauty of Sintra.

The Portuguese kings spent their summers in Pena Palace high above Sintra Vila which is also the site of the 9th c. Moorish Castle. Besides its rich history there are many beaches, golf courses and stunning walks along the coast or in the mountains.

The nearest village, Almoçageme is 3 minutes by car and has many good restaurants, cafes, grocery stores and its own beach.

B & B guests are requested to stay a minimum of 2 nights
Single rooms are 50 euros / double rooms are 80 euros

Self-Caterering guests are requested to book from Saturday to Saturday.
Guests are also asked to vacate the house by 10am and arrive after 3pm - there is flexibility on both of these points when possible.
A 30% deposit is required at time of booking / full payment is due 8 weeks prior to arrival.
