Accommodation (Bed & Breakfast Guest House, sleeps: 8)
Immediately on entering the house you will notice the profusion of bears on our staircase and our family dog, Gus, who likes to lord it on the landing. No doubt he'll inspect you first,, but there is no cause for alarm for Gus is extremely friendly.
Along with the many bears scattered throughout the house, he has featured in Harry Lowman's collection of short stories called
Our ensuite rooms (with baths and showers) are:
- extremely spacious
- furnished with kingsize beds and lots of little luxuries to make your stay as pleasant as possible
- all rooms command splendid views over open countryside towards Skiddaw and the mountains of the Lake District
We have lots of private parking and a large garden that we love to share with our guests.
So just tuck into a hearty breakfast, read the paper in the sun lounge, stroll around the garden and then go forth and enjoy the day.

Caravan Site
- our caravan site occupies a one acre lawned field set apart from the house.
- hard standings and electric hook-ups
- tents are welcome but there are no toilet facilities
- now available, a fully equipped static caravan.
one double bedroom (larger than most) with washbasin and loads of wardrobe space
sited in a quiet corner with views across open farmland, this is for couples who prefer not to stay on noisy or crowded caravan parks
- £150 - £250 per week including all bedding and a complimentary cooked breakfast in the guesthouse on your first morning

Locality (close to: Aspatria)
The Manor House is in the village of Oughterside on the North Western Edge of the Lake District just 5 miles from the market town of Cockermouth, the birthplace of William Wordsworth and twenty miles from Keswick and Carlisle.
It is an ideal spot for exploration of the Northern Fells and Lakes.
Rove the country lanes on foot, bike or car.
The Allerdale footpath and cycle way are close by.
Enjoy walking along unspoilt beaches by the Solway Firth.
We're ideally placed for continued exploration North towards Hadrians Wall and on to the glories of Scotland, or East along the borders.
Nearby places you can visit:
- Cockermouth (6 miles) is a gem of a market town with William Wordsworth's birthplace (NT), tours of Jennings Brewery, and more.
- Maryport (6 miles) - a pleasant harbour area with an Aquarium which is well worth a visit and a Roman Museum.
- Lorton Vale (9 miles) on to Buttermere and round Borrowdale by the Honister Pass - surely the most beautiful ride in the Lake District . Honister Slate Mines.
- Whitehaven (20 miles) - large harbour, loads of shops, the Beacon and the award winning Rum Story
- Keswick (20 miles) via a range of scenic routes, hiking shops, the lake with boat trips and the famous Theatre by the Lake.
- Loweswater, Ennerdale and Wast Water - Ideal for easy walking
- Muncaster Castle and the Ravenglass Railway - easily accessed from this side of the Lake District
- Carlisle (20 miles) is a magnificent city with a Castle and wonderful shops
