Your Hosts in FranceJohn and Lee-anne Furness left Australia in '99 to open a B & B in France and in doing so fulfilled a dream.
Coming to France they left behind rich and varied employment in teaching, career counselling, marketing, book editing, management, music, commercial cooking and catering.
Locality (close to: Léran)
The huge garden is a haven if you wish to unwind, with perfect places for hammocks.
Take your book and settle back, but be prepared to drift off to sleep.
The addition of our 10 by 5m salt water pool is wickedly tempting. In the height of summer the century old oak trees, bamboo, cyclamens and strawberries provide a cool, green oasis.
Follow the bridge over the small creek onto the 'left bank' and pick for yourself an apple or a fig.
We are in the village of Léran, a traditional French village 100 kms from Toulouse, which is the nearest international airport. Access to and from the airport is extremely easy as Toulouse is 'girt' by a peripherique which bypasses the centre of Toulouse. It connects to the autoroute going west to Bordeaux/Paris and east to Carcassonne, Narbonne and the Mediterranean. The Salvaza airport at Carcassonne is serviced by internal French flights as well as budget flights from England via RyanAir.
Trains run from Toulouse to Foix and Pamiers, although it is easier to hire a car at Toulouse (Blagnac) airport or Carcassonne. It is suggested that people hire diesel cars because it is cheaper. Smaller cars are easier here because you will be driving through villages with narrow streets and wandering along winding country roads hedged by wild herbs and flowers.
We are 3.5 hours from Barcelona, 90 minutes from Andorra.
It is possible to drive to the Mediterranean from here (approx 90 minutes) or into the Pyrénees to find towns with thermal spas.
