Tom's Barn

   ...ref.no: 712
Accommodation   (Self Catering Cottage, sleeps: 2)

Tom’s Barn is exceptionally pleasing, or so we are frequently told. It has Five Stars. We converted it six years ago, and thanks to a lot of inspirational professional help at the time we have a ‘cottage’ that combines every modern comfort with all the charm of a traditional 18th-century White Peak farm building. It is ideal for couples of all ages, or singles wanting comfort, peace and quiet somewhere absolutely safe. Babies are very welcome, and dogs, but it is not suitable for toddlers or the disabled.

It has become a perennial favourite, with many of our guests returning time and again. Newcomers often assume it is brand new because a rolling programme of redecoration repair and replacement ensures that the quality remains tiptop. It exudes a warm, welcoming, cosy atmosphere, combined with a sense of airiness and space, thanks to clever lighting, and also of course to the enormous south facing window, complete with original lintel and to the fact that the sitting room is exposed to the rafters - with our Australian son-in-law’s paintings high up on the walls.

    Ground Floor
  • Downstairs is quarry-tiled floor throughout, with a large rug by the fire in the sitting room
  • The kitchen is fully equipped, with everything a keen cook might need, and there is a pine table and four chairs by the window
  • In the sitting room a comfortable sofa and chairs face the log burner
  • We provide the usual TV, DVD etc, plenty of books and games, and some tapes, CDs and DVDs
    First Floor
  • Wooden open-tread stairs lead to the galleried bedroom
  • Here there is a king size bed, wall mounted TV; the en suite bathroom with 2-seater whirlpool bath and tumbled marble floor is very popular.
  • A surprise feature is the rather low original roof truss – which to satisfy the powers that be we will now have to have padded in case of bumped heads!
    Outside
  • Close to the cottage there is a sitting out area with a wooden picnic table complete with parasol
  • We have provided a small portable barbecue for your own use
  • Parking space for your car is nearby, within the grounds

Parwich is a typical small village in the southern White Peak area of the Peak National Park. It nestles in a hollow well away from main roads and consists of limestone farmhouses and cottages. There is a church, a pub, a village shop, a cricket ground, tennis courts and a bowling green. Parwich lies within a wonderful walking area and is close to many beauty spots and visitor attractions.

There is endless opportunity for WALKING in the hills and dales of the White Peak surrounded by dry stone walls wooded copses and wildlife. The Dovedale and Manifold Valleys are close by, providing riverside walks at the base of the towering limestone gorges; the Limestone, High Peak ad Tissington Trails are all excellent for walking, cycing and riding. We can lend bicycles or you can hire them locally; Carsington Water is a very popular visitor attraction with walking and cycle routes around the reservoir and facilities for cycle hire - including the new electric bikes - as well as watersports..
