Accommodation (Self Catering Farm Cottage, sleeps: 6)
Stawley Wood is a small family-run working farm set in the beautiful rolling hills on the Somerset and Devon border.
Adjacent to the farm house are three interlinked cottages.
General Features
- The cottages are unusual in that the bedrooms and bathrooms are downstairs and the daily living area is upstairs.
- Downstairs opens into a large enclosed south-facing courtyard with barbeque equipment and outdoor furniture supplied - a real suntrap.
- Upstairs, each cottage is open-plan with a wood-effect floor, attractive window shutters, high ceilings, with beautifully equipped kitchen and dining area. Each kitchen has a fridge and electric cooker with fan assisted oven and separate grill. Shippon and Cider cottages have a dishwasher.
- Each sitting room is well equipped with TV, video and music system. Each has a double sofa bed for extra guests.
- The bedrooms are carpeted and electrically heated. Every bath/shower room has underfloor heating. Each cottage has a washing machine.
- Just next door, the drying room is equipped with a freezer and tumble dryer for general use.
- Towels and bed linen are provided. Mid week changeovers are welcomed.
Shippon Cottage (sleeps 6) has three bedrooms and is very spacious upstairs
- Bedroom 1: King size bed and en-suite shower and WC.
- Bedroom 2: Standard size double bed.
- Bedroom 3: Twin single beds.
- There is also a separate bathroom and WC
Cider Cottage (sleeps 4) has two bedrooms and has been especially adapted for wheelchair use
- a ramp leads into the upstairs living area via a wide door and a stair lift enables ease of access to and from the ground floor.
- Bedroom 1: Standard size double bed with adapted en-suite shower room and WC.
- Bedroom 2: Twin single beds.
Stable Cottage (sleeps 2) is the smallest cottage
- with one bedroom (king size double bed
- and separate bathroom.
Locality (close to: Wellington)
Wellington is a friendly town set in a wide valley between the beautiful Blackdown Hills, seven miles west of Taunton on the River Tone. The name is synonymous with the famous "Iron Duke" victor of the battle of Waterloo.
Activities/Attractions:
- Wellington Sports Centre has a range of activities on offer, squash, badminton, aerobic classes, fitness training equipment and a swimming pool.
- Wellington Monument - Prominent on the skyline of the scarp of the Blackdown Hills, a 175-foot column, erected in Wellington's honour, to commemorate his victory.
- Wellington Museum - Explore the importance of the woollen industry and the town's close association with the "Iron Duke", plus local history and rural life displays.
On the farm, this most peaceful setting is complemented by a multitude of interesting flora and fauna:
- Stunning white doves
- tame rare-breed miniature Kune-Kune pigs
- guinea-fowl
- duck, geese
- moorhen, chickens
- quail, pheasants
- sparrow hawk
- cattle, horses
- sheep
... can be found in and around the place. You may even see a barn owl.
