Castle Townshend has been the seat of the Townshend family in Ireland for many generations. The centre part was built around 1650. The original Castles were destroyed in the 17/18th Centuries. The two towers were then added to the present Castle, using the stone from the ruined Castle.
Castle Gardens House as its name suggests is located within a quiet courtyard in the castle gardens.
Castle Gardens House Sleeps up to 10
- Ground floor - large living room with open fire, kitchen/diner, utility room and shower room.
- First floor - 3 bedrooms, 2 of which are ensuite with shower room, bathroom.
- Second floor - 2 twin-bedded rooms and shower room.
- The house is centrally heated.
- Outside there is a patio to the rear and a grassed area to the front.
- Private parking.
Locality (close to: Castletownshend)
The village of Castletownshend is centred around the steep main road that leads down to the Castle, the quayside and the harbour.
There are a number of pubs in the village, including the Egon Ronay listed pub and restaurant Mary Anne's; there's also a post office and a shop.
Skibbereen is now considered the luckiest town in Ireland for winning the Lotto. In summer time its a bustling place and it is one of the main towns on the West Cork tourist trail.
On Wednesday there is a cattle mart and here is chance to see agricultural Ireland almost unchanged from the way it was in bygone days. On a Friday there is a Country Market, on Saturday a Farmers' Market and here you can purchase home baked items such as jam, biscuits, soda breads, pies and organic produce grown on local farms.

Tariff Information
Tariff Range: from 500 to 900 EUR per week
Prices are per week.
Castle Gardens House ... (New Year) € 700 ... (Nov - Mar) € 500 ... (Apr, May, Oct) € 600 ... (Jun, Sep) € 700 ... (Jul, Aug) € 900
Bed linen and towels are supplied free of charge, as is gas for cooking.
Electricity is charged by the unit as used.
Oil for central heating (in West Tower and Chavenage) is also extra.
A charge is also made for any breakages during tenancy.
A deposit of half the rent is payable on booking. The remainder is due prior to departure.
Check-in time is between 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. unless otherwise arranged, and departure time is by 11 a.m..
We request the house to be left clean and tidy ready for the next tenants.
If extra cleaning is required, this may be arranged for an extra charge.
