This charming Charentaise Logis was originally built as a gentleman's residence with a Manor house and private vineyard. It later became a working farm and has since been restored to provide a detached Owners manor house and 4 separate quality self catering holiday cottages.
Approached through grand entrance gates at the end of a private tree lined avenue, providing shaded parking, the manor house and cottages all overlook the pretty fountain and courtyard, in 2 acres of landscaped gardens with raquet sports and common games room.
The cottages are all self contained, comfortably furnished and well equipped with modern conveniences, retaining some original exposed beams and stonework. Each cottage has a private front and rear courtyard garden with patio table and chairs and BBQ for al-fresco dining. The bedrooms feature attractive French style bedsteds.
La Remise formerly a stone coach house has an open plan kitchen and sitting room on the ground floor with some exposed stonework, together with a family shower room and separate toilet.
The sitting room is comfortably furnished with a sofa and two armchairs, a dining table and chairs and coffee table.
The kitchen is equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, gas oven, microwave and fridge freezer.
There is a mini Hi-fi music system and satellite TV which gets some English-language digital channels.
French doors open onto a courtyard garden with a covered area providing shade, patio table and chairs and BBQ
Upstairs there is a double, a twin bedded room and a second bathroom with bath and shower over, toilet and wash basin.
Facilities
- La Remise shares, with the three other cottages, a lovely 10 x 5m rectangular heated swimming pool with Roman steps and a 2m deep end. The pool has a large sunbathing terrace with lounger chairs and parasols
- Next to the pool is a fridge freezer where you can buy drinks and ice creams, some tables and chairs and washroom facilities.
- In these south facing gardens there is a second heated pool used by the owners or their guests staying in the manor house, a Boule court, grass short tennis, badminton, football nest and sandpit
- In the Old Grange, an open barn, there is a games room with table tennis, a pool table, bar football and air hockey all floodlit at night. All games and raquet equipment is provided.
- At the end of the gardens there is the river Boutonne and woodlands with an abundance of wildlife ideal for cycling or walking and taking a picnic.

Locality (close to: Chef-Boutonne)
The Poitou-Charentes is an area with many discoveries and landscapes, steeped in history and tradition. Here you can explore hilltop villages and medieval towns, visit Chateaux and ancient Abbeys, relax on the many sandy beaches or simply enjoy a drive or cycle ride through forests and woodlands, along meandering rivers, surrounded by beautiful countryside, sunflower fields and vineyards with a variety of wildlife.
A variety of sandy beaches are found on the islands of Re,Oleron and Aix and around the the resorts at Royan, Chataillion le plage and Fouras, all of which offer excellent seaford restaurants. In the 'Mariais Poitevin'( the Green Venice ) a marshland area of great beauty, there are a labyrinth of waterways linking quaint villages through wetland forests. Here you can take out punts and canoes. There are also paths for hiking and cycling.
Throughout the region there are ideal locations for canoeing, kayaking and dinghy sailing on sheltered lakes and along the River Charente as well as zoos, liesure parks and a variety of other attractions to entertain the whole family. Medieval towns like Chauvigny, Confolens overlooking the converging rivers of the Charente and Vienne, St.Jean d'Angely with cobbled streets and gothic towers and fine cities like Cognac, the Spa town of Rochefort ,walled seaport of La Rochelle and cathedral city of Angouleme are just some of the many historical places of interest to visit for the day or simply to shop and take a liesurely lunch.
Closer to home you will find Aulnay and Chef Boutonne forests and the 15th Century fairytale Chateau Javarzay with park and fishing lake. At the end of the garden to the Logis, a short stroll along a country lane, there is the river Boutonne and woodlands with an abundance of wildlife, ideal for a picnic, walking and cycling, as well as a trout farm selling smoked and fresh fish.
Whilst located in the lovely Boutonne valley on the edge of a quaint village, the Logis is conveniently close to the popular small market town of Chef Boutonne, about 2km from Lussais, where there are two supermarkets, a charcuterie, boucherie and boulangeries as well as bars and two restaurants. There is a weekly market here and at the nearby village of Aulnay.
The nearest Boulangerie to buy your fresh bread and croissants is in Javarzay, just a minutes drive in the car or a pleasant 20 min walk along a country lane beside the river. The nearest restaurant at ‘Des Cannards’ with poolside terrace is a 10 min stroll from the bottom the garden.
Try the regional delicacies of oysters and mussles, snails and melon and the local Charente wine. Visit the local vineyards for wine tasting and discovery farms selling their own produce from fois gras to escargot vegetables and cheeses.
The region offers it all, with clean air and warm sunshine, good food and wine. There is something here for everyone to to make it a relaxing and memorable holiday.
