Gardener's Cottage

Accommodation (Self Catering Cottage, sleeps: 8)
Gardener's Cottage once housed the Head Gardener, the Coachman and the Coach House for the estate, in a Victorian conversion of a 17th century barn. The buildings have since been amalgamated to make a very pleasant and spacious cottage with large windows. Set in a landscaped garden with lawns and flowerbeds, it provides the perfect base for a comfortable, peaceful holiday.
There are 4 double bedrooms and 3 bathrooms, two of which are en-suite. One of the en-suite bedrooms is in the newly restored, attractive stone-built garden annexe, known as 'Blandings'. Linked to the main cottage by a well-lit lavender-lined pathway, which gives it additional privacy and peace, the annexe is self-sufficient and can sometimes be let in the low season, when Gardener's is not in use, as a low-cost, quiet weekend hideaway.
Blandings has a large double bedroom with a sofa and chairs, a tiled bathroom with bath, shower, toilet, heated towel rail and wash basin .... A wood-burning fire gives additional heat in the winter. There is a Colour TV with a Video recorder, and tea and coffee-making facilities, and a microwave oven is also supplied.
One of the double bedrooms in the main cottage is also en-suite with a bath, wash basin, toilet and heated towel-rail. Between the double room with a king-sized bed and the twin bedroom is a third bathroom. This also has a bath with shower, toilet and wash basin. Immersion heaters give a constant supply of hot-water.
The spacious dining-room seats eight with ease, and the table can be extended for the use of larger parties renting both cottages. The large, sunny sitting room is comfortably furnished with three sofas and chairs and French windows lead out in to the garden. Bookshelves are well-stocked with books giving local information, fiction and a selection of videos and DVD's. A Digital terrestrial Colour TV and VCR/DVD recorder are also provided as well as a radio and CD player. There is a phone.
The pretty kitchen has fitted units, an electric hob and oven, washing machine and dishwasher. It is well-equipped with plenty of utinsils, china and glass for large parties. A full list of equipment can be found by using the link below.
The efficient log-burning fire gives plenty of warmth in the winter and the house has full oil-fired central-heating. Logs are supplied free of charge.
The attractive garden designed to support a variety of wild-life, has lawns on two levels and is well-fenced. There is a barbeque, garden table and chairs, as well as comfortable chairs for enjoying summer sun. An adjoining orchard usually houses some of our friendly Miniature Donkeys.
A parking space for 4 cars is available on the cottage's own driveway with flat access to the front door for disabled visitors.
Please note that smoking is not allowed upstairs in the cottage, and Blandings is non-smoking. Well-behaved dogs are welcome.
Locality (close to: How Caple)
Garraway House is a Grade 2 listed Country House lying on the outskirts of the quiet riverside village of How Caple, 5 miles from Ross, in the beautiful, unspoilt Lower Wye Valley, now a designated Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
How Caple lies in the heart of the magnificent Wye Valley countryside. It is exceptionally well placed on the borders of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Wales to give easy access to many places of interest. Junction 3 of the M50 motorway is 4 miles away. The Malvern Hills, The Royal Forest of Dean, The Cotswolds, The Welsh Marches, Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons National Park, Cheltenham, Monmouth, Ludlow, Stratford-on-Avon, Tewkesbury and the three cathedral cities of Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester are all within easy reach for a day-visit by car.
Good Living: In this fertile valley of The River Wye locally-produced vegetables and fruit, as well as famous Herefordshire beef, Gloucester Old Spot pork and Ryeland lamb are among the superb food you will find for sale and served in our many excellent pubs and restaurants. Herefordshire boasts a pub with a Michelin rosette and there are several excellent pub restaurants within a radius of 3-4 miles of the cottages. If you prefer to eat good food in the cottages, a list can be provided of fresh and ready-prepared foods available from our Herefordshire and Wye valley farm-to-table producers. These will be purchased to order and placed in your refrigerator at no extra cost. Two Rick Stein Food heroes figure on the list, among those producing ready prepared foods; always a bonus for a cook on holiday.
Walkers staying in the cottages are specially catered for and we supply a package of suggested routes, as well as maps and plenty of local information in the well stocked cottage libraries.
Meet the Animals: Those with children will enjoy meeting our gentle, friendly Miniature Donkeys who graze the land around the cottages. Holly and Rosetta came to us from Ohio, USA, and Stella, Meagan and Annie, came from Texas, all in 2005. They are regularly shown in-hand and visitors are welcome to help with their care and training, if they are interested. All the donkeys love attention. A Rare Breeds Farm 2 miles away also provides an opportunity for children to meet animals.
