Cider Mill Cottage
...ref.no: 443
Accommodation (Self Catering Cottage, sleeps: 4)
Cider Mill Cottage once housed the Cider Mill and Granary on the estate. It has recently been imaginatively converted in to a most attractive sandstone cottage with exposed beams. It has a most attractive interior and is very well furnished and equipped, with good quality furniture, some of which are antiques, and comfortable beds. It is a non-smoking cottage.
A first-floor sitting room is heavily-beamed and high ceilinged with a French window looking out over lawns and mature trees. The inglenook has a woodburning fire and there is always a plentiful supply of dry logs. A wide choice of guide-books, maps, and fiction to suit all tastes is available in the bookcase, as well as some videos and DVD's. There is a Digital colour TV and VCR and DVD player.
The kitchen has fitted units with attractive tiling showing country themes. The electric hob has an extractor fan with light. A stable door leads out on to a small rose terrace, with garden and furniture. The kitchen is extremely well-equipped. At one end of the kitchen is a dining area with a circular table, seating four.
The Cider Mill itself is now converted into a pretty twin-bedroom, with windows facing south, but sheltered from strong sun by the magnificent fig-tree outside. The tiled en-suite bathroom has a shower, wash-basin and shaver point, heated towel rail and toilet.
The other twin bedroom has French windows leading out into a small terrace with planted containers.
The spacious en-suite bathroom has a bath, wash-basin with shaver point, and heated towel rail and toilet.
There is a colour TV with remote , in this bedroom.
Ample parking space is provided for two cars. The garden extends to a grassy area with views across the fields to woodland and.there is a summerhouse, barbeque area and garden furniture.
The cottage is extremely well-insulated and the oil-fired central heating system has thermostatic controls on each radiator, making it a cosy place to stay in winter. Central Heating is an extra, charged at current oil prices.
We occasionally allow small well-behaved dogs but in general we advise visitors who wish to bring their dogs on holiday to consider Gardener’s which is more suitable.
Locality (close to: How Caple)
Garraway House is a Grade 2 listed Country House lying on the outskirts of the quiet riverside village of How Caple, 5 miles from Ross, in the beautiful, unspoilt Lower Wye Valley, now a designated Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).
How Caple lies in the heart of the magnificent Wye Valley countryside. It is exceptionally well placed on the borders of Herefordshire, Gloucestershire and Wales to give easy access to many places of interest. Junction 3 of the M50 motorway is 4 miles away. The Malvern Hills, The Royal Forest of Dean, The Cotswolds, The Welsh Marches, Black Mountains, Brecon Beacons National Park, Cheltenham, Monmouth, Ludlow, Stratford-on-Avon, Tewkesbury and the three cathedral cities of Hereford, Worcester and Gloucester are all within easy reach for a day-visit by car.
Good Living: In this fertile valley of The River Wye locally-produced vegetables and fruit, as well as famous Herefordshire beef, Gloucester Old Spot pork and Ryeland lamb are among the superb food you will find for sale and served in our many excellent pubs and restaurants. Herefordshire boasts a pub with a Michelin rosette and there are several excellent pub restaurants within a radius of 3-4 miles of the cottages. If you prefer to eat good food in the cottages, a list can be provided of fresh and ready-prepared foods available from our Herefordshire and Wye valley farm-to-table producers. These will be purchased to order and placed in your refrigerator at no extra cost. Two Rick Stein Food heroes figure on the list, among those producing ready prepared foods; always a bonus for a cook on holiday.
Walkers staying in the cottages are specially catered for and we supply a package of suggested routes, as well as maps and plenty of local information in the well stocked cottage libraries.
Meet the Animals: Those with children will enjoy meeting our gentle, friendly Miniature Donkeys who graze the land around the cottages. Holly and Rosetta came to us from Ohio, USA, and Stella, Meagan and Annie, came from Texas, all in 2005. They are regularly shown in-hand and visitors are welcome to help with their care and training, if they are interested. All the donkeys love attention. A Rare Breeds Farm 2 miles away also provides an opportunity for children to meet animals.
