Stares’ Nest (the name is believed to be an abbreviation of Starlings Nest) is a secluded, stonewalled, slate roofed 13th century cottage close to the village inn, with two bedrooms with electric heating, one double with en-suite bathroom and one with one double and one single bed, and shower room.
FEATURES:
- The bathrooms are newly fitted, and have limestone floors with underfloor heating and heated towel rails.
- There are stone floors throughout the ground floor.
- The kitchen/ breakfast room has a Rayburn, electric cooker, fridge, washer & dishwasher.
- The sitting/dining room has an inglenook fireplace and electric heating, rugs and comfy furniture.
- Outside there is a south facing slate courtyard and extensive gardens, with stream and ponds (unsuitable for small children).
Locality (close to: Ashburton)
The local area is ideal for walking (the Two Moors Way passes nearby), fishing, and horse riding, and the coast is a short drive away.
Ashburton has had a reputation for its pubs, inns and coaching houses for hundreds of years. Its importance as a Stannery Town and its location on the main road to London meant that many a weary and hungry traveller tarried a while.
Today is little different except that the travellers who visit it today are doing so mostly for leisure rather than to trade. Many of the pubs and Inns still exist today along with a good selection of Tea shops, cafes and good quality restaurants.
