You may be too late to shop on your arrival day so we are happy to stock the fridge for you before your arrival. Just let us know in advance.
Dinner delivered to your door has become really popular with guests. If you are arriving late from the channel ports or airports or have been out touring all day, we are happy to prepare a 3 course dinner or simple supper, using fresh local ingredients and served to you in your gite. Either eat in by candlelight or on the terrace in the warm evening air.
Please give us 24 hours notice or book ahead. Barbeques have also been very popular here - let us take the heat out of your evening and provide a feast of barbequed food and salads for you and your family and friends.
The owner of Le Vieux Presbytère is a Marchand de Vin and will conduct an informal tutored wine tasting to help you decide on your favourites from this area of France. Fun and informative! Please ask for details.
Locality (close to: Eauze)
The location of Le Vieux Presbytère in the Gers is superb for a peaceful, de-stressing holiday and as it is situated between Eauze and Condom and west of Auch there are plenty of facilities nearby. Equally it is an excellent base from which to explore the beautiful countryside with its historic bastide towns, villages and chateaux. There is also a wide variety of sporting facilities and attractions to suit all tastes.
Eauze is the nearest market town with supermarkets, butchers, hairdressers and shops. A good museum with Roman remains found in the area and one of the best markets on Thursday mornings. Condom is a port on the river Baïse and is famed for armagnac producers and an impressive Cathedral. Auch, a 45 minute drive, is the capital town of the Gers and is dominated by the Cathedral of Saint Marie. Auch has everything expected of a regional capital with the charming old part of the town, plenty of shops and restaurants and two weekly markets. Closer to Le Vieux Presbytère is Vic Fezensac, which is well known locally for its bull fights and festivals (see Events) has plenty of shops and restaurants and a friendly market on Friday mornings.
The local bastide villages are interesting to visit. Larressingle is a 13th century fortified village, the smallest in France (the so-called Carcassonne of the Gers).
The Gallo-Roman town of Lectoure is famous for its melons, with many interesting buildings to see and several museums. Also Bleu de Lectoure, an old tannery where blue dye from woad is once more being cultivated. Lovely hotel with well known restaurant is the Hotel de Bastard.
There are several spa towns in the area where you can take the waters in the Thermal Baths. Castera Verduzan is a pretty 30 minute drive cross country and Barbotan les Thermes 30 minutes to the west. Two hours south, close to the mountains is Lourdes and another spa town Bagnères de Bigorre.
The Atlantic coast is easily accessible for day trips: 1 ½ hours to the pine forests, oyster beds, huge sand dunes and surfing beaches of the Atlantic coast.
