Locality (close to: Puy L'Eveque)
Located deep in the heart of the Lot Valley, the house stands in a quiet garden leading down to the edge of the river. Here you can sit and enjoy the beautiful tree lined river in peace, sun bathe or perhaps catch some fish for your evening meal; perfect cooked on the barbecue. Views are magnificent and far reaching across the river, towards the ancient port of Puy L’Eveque and further deep into the mysterious valley.
The valley takes in one of France’s most vibrant and beautiful areas. Steep hills covered with old oak and beech trees give way to the formality of line vineyards. The meandering river Lot sleepily eases its way through limestone gorges, past majestic chateaux and every so often ancient villages appear magically perched precariously on the side of cliffs. The river and woodlands surrounding our home are rich in wildlife and every day birds, red squirrels and coypu pay a visit to our riverbank.
Amazingly, the area around us is still unspoilt and you can find total isolation as well as busy market towns. Cahors, a lovely ancient town, is just thirty minutes away. This area is also famous for its black-diamond truffles, walnuts and some of the best cheeses you can buy; and of course, the wonderful red wines. The climate in this area is excellent and the warm season extends from early April to late October.
We have of course provided lists of places to see and things to do, for wet and dry days, as well as details of market days in the area, vineyards, chateaux, sports activities, restaurants and lots of other information you might need.
We also supply a welcome pack of foodstuffs and complimentary wine from our local vineyard to help ease you gently into the holiday mood.
For modern requirements there are plenty of restaurants, cafes, bars, bakers, banks & shops (including a supermarket) selling products of the region.
We are 7 hours drive from Le Havre much of which is motorway.
By plane we are an hours drive from Bergerac airport, two hours from Toulouse (Blagnac) airport,
By train: Eurostar to Lille or Paris then TGV to Agen or SNCF to Cahors. We are 45 minutes from Agen & 30 minutes from Cahors.
