Our 200 year old farmhouse, together with four other houses, makes up the peaceful hamlet of La Mothe. It is surrounded by fields and wooded countryside and the lane ends at our house before disappearing up into the hills.
The house faces south, with uninterrupted views over rolling valleys. There are shaded terraces to sit beneath ash and flowering lime trees. It stands in about 2 acres, much of which is grass, allowing plenty of room for games.

Locality (close to: Villeneuve d'Aveyron)
La Mothe is about 3 kms.from the very pretty village of Salles Courbatiers, set around the pond, with a Church, post office, village shop and trout farm. The two cafés are popular places for the young to meet. Just 6 kms. away is the renowned and beautiful small 12th. Century Bastide of Villeneuve d'Aveyron. It is centred around the ancient market square and cobbled streets with all the daily shopping facilities, pharmacy, doctors, bank and restuarants. You can relax with a drink sitting outside the café in the shade of the arches.
Concerts are held from time to time in the magnificent Romanesque Church. A large market is held on the first Monday of each month and a smaller one every Sunday morning. The medieval market town and Royal bastide of Villefranche de Rouergue is about 16 kms. away, with large supermarkets, major shops and banks. There is an extensive, typical French market in and around the Cathedral Square every Thursday morning.
To the French, the Aveyron is known as " France Profonde". With its hills, valleys and rivers it provides excellent walking and is also called the Département of the Ramblers. Horse riding, tennis, sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and fishing are all within easy reach.
There is much to interest the nature lover with many rare and beautiful butterflies, birds, flowers and wild life.
Midi-Pyrénées
- Its landscape is beyond compare with the mighty Pyrénées bordering Spain to the south, the lush forests of Dordogne to the north, and in between the spacious valleys stacked with a history blended by many forces and land marked by mountain top monasteries, sleepy stone and wooded hamlets, green fragrant groves and medieval castles.
Midi-Pyrénées Sites
- The Romanesque abbey in Conques is legendary and the village itself has recorded a very interesting history and seems largely unchanged by the passing decades. The Canal du Midi is one of the region’s treasures and remains the oldest canal in use in Europe. So impressive is the undertaking that the Canal du Midi has earned the prestige of being included as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
- Star gazer’s mouths will be agape at the Pic du Midi Observation and Research Centre perched at the mountain’s apex. The sandstone facades of the buildings of Figeac are not the thing of beauty in the quaint village. Figeac boasts lovely palaces and artistic sculptures. Albi is a larger town with much history and heritage to offer its visitors.
- Gavarnie is a naturally occurring mega circular valley more than two miles in circumference at the base and more than nine miles at the top. The depth of 5,500ft gives way to splashes of green flora and blue cascading water at this amazing site. Rocamadour is one of the Midi-Pyrénées' main attractions. This city in the sky is built from the very mountain atop which it is perched. The site of pilgrimages since the 12th Century, Rocamadour still amazes all who visit.
