RUSSÉ - Self-catering accommodation for 2
deal for a couple, this studio gite offers more reasonably priced accommodation, without sacrificing comfort.
Set in the medieval building the great open fireplace bears witness that this was once the heart of the farm.
Indeed when restoring it we discovered the original oven, one of the features we have been able to retain, along with the original beams and floor.
Russé has both access from the main farmyard in the front and to its own private garden area to the rear.
We want an efficient energy policy which keeps our usage and of course our, and therefore your costs as low as possible.
Russé is carefully insulated and Solar energy will provide most of the hot water.
There is no lack of sun!
Features:
- Main room: TV and DVD, double sofa-bed.
- Kitchen area: electric grill/oven and double hob, sink, fridge with freezer compartment.
- Washing machine and dryer in the laundry.
- Heating: electric throughout.
- Internet: Wi-Fi.
Locality (close to: Allonnes)
Located in in the Loire Valley near Saumur and with extensive grounds and heated swimming pool, set in our 30-acre farm, to give you the best of both worlds.
This is a completely rural setting which makes for wonderful walking and cycling, but with very easy access, and good shops within two miles.
The thirty acres of le Chapy are surrounded by beautiful countryside where you can enjoy the river, lake, spring and swimming pool, without ever leaving.
Distances:
- Channel ports - le Havre - 3 hours
- Airports - Nantes - 1½ hours
- Train Station - Saumur - 10 to15 minutes
A selection of places to visit and things to do- all within about15 miles
- Allonnes - our nearest town for food and essential shopping
- Azay-le Rideau - The chateau is a Francis I masterpiece, and there is a museum for all ages
- Chinon - The town is beautiful and the castle magnificent
- Dolmens - pre-historic burial mounds, in Saumur at Bagneux
- La Ferme d'Antan - at Doue-la-Fontaine for children to cuddle animals
- Ile de Parnay - bird sanctuary near Montsoreau (visits only late -August to March
- Joan of Arc - exhibition, in the awesome Clock Tower of Chinon Castle
- Canoe and Kayak club at Saumur
- The first underground miniature park in miniature in the world - near Saumur
- Troglodyte - traditional cave communities: ROCHEMENIER and LES PERRIÈRES are great examples
- Water and Wine - are two key features of the area. In all its moods the Loire is impressive, and you could spend a week on vineyards alone.
There is a weekly wine tour (in English) and tasting at Bourgueil in the summer, which has been taken and enjoyed my many of our guests - we can book you in.
- Aquarium - the biggest freshwater collection in Europe is at Lussault-sur-Loire, near Amboise, but that is just more than 15 miles away!
- Saumur railway station lies only a few minute's drive away, between us and the town. The TGV makes a day trip to Paris a realistic proposition, though a lot cheaper if you book ahead
