El Sequer is a typical 19th century Mediterranean farmhouse called a "riu-rau" that was formerly used for drying grapes to produce raisins. Today, it is a charming, self-catering rural cottage, half-hidden amongst orange groves occupying 600m2, on the outskirts of the village of Benimeli.
Tastefully decorated in a traditional rustic style with modern touches, this home has been faithfully restored, conserving the original structure and using local materials such as terracotta, bamboo cane ceilings, wooden beams and stonework.
Features:
- Inside, the cottage has two bedrooms; "Segaria" - spacious and sunny, with its antique double bed and built in cupboard, and "Rectoria" - in soothing blue tones, with two single beds and windows opening onto the garden.
- The tastefully decorated bathroom has a whirlpool bath and fragrant toiletries.
- There is a unique collection of local baskets hanging from the walls of the passage that leads into the cosy yet spacious living - dining-room area with its fireplace, comfortable sofa, rugs and armchairs.
Original watercolour paintings, ceramics, terracotta clad tables and earthenware jars add that Mediterranean touch, artfully combined with unusual antique pieces.
- The original well divides this area from the open-plan kitchen, fitted out with fridge, electric cooker, oven, dishwasher, microwave, and a range of other small electrical appliances.
- The cottage is also equipped with central heating and air-conditioning, a washing machine, iron and board, television, radio/CD/tape player, table games, reading material and abundant information about the area.
- Two mountain-bikes are provided for the guests' use and a welcome pack.
- Outside, the porch with its comfy deck chairs under the shade of two large fruit trees, is a natural lookout point for enjoying the panoramic views of the Rectoria valley and surrounding mountain ranges.
The secluded garden has an original barbecue area, including an 18th century stone sink, built over the remains of the animals' feeding trough.
- An enormous fig tree provides the necessary shade in summer for siestas and quiet reading, while the pool, surrounded by orange trees, is the perfect spot for a refreshing swim.
Beyond this area is the orange grove and vegetable patch where guests are invited to pick fruit or vegetables when in season.
You will find all the ingredients here for a relaxing stay in these unique surroundings. El Sequer offers it all, promising you an unforgettable vacation!
Locality (close to: Benimeli)
Benimeli, where the self-catering country house “El Sequer” is located, is a small village of approximately 360 inhabitants. Formerly a Moorish settlement, whose name in Arabic means “sons of kings”, today, it is one of the prettiest villages of The Costa Blanca's inland, with narrow and winding streets, stately houses and a picturesque main square. Here can be found the 18thC Saint Andrew’s church, a cultural centre, the Town Hall, a bar/restaurant and a grocery store. The village’s infrastructure that boasts a sports complex, municipal swimming pool, chemist, post office, butcher and bakery, is sufficient to meet the needs of both residents and visitors. Headquarters of the Recoría Musical Band, Benimeli celebrates several cultural and musical events throughout the year. A pleasant climate all year round is another attraction this privileged location offers as a holiday retreat.
El Sequer is situated in a privileged location, close to the many and varied leisure alternatives that the area has to offer, but far enough away so that the tranquillity and peace are not disturbed. Imagine what fantastic holidays you can plan in a 6-30 Km radius, with the following ingredients:
- Three Nature Parks: the Montgó in Denia, the Pego-Oliva Marshlands and the Peñón of Ifach in Calpe
- The Safari Park in Vergel (6 Km.) (swim with the sea lions!)
- The Marine Reserve of San Antonio, between Denia and Javea
- Prehistoric Caves in Benidoleig (6Km) and the Ebo Valley (10Km) with important Neolithic cave paintings
- Rupestrian paintings in Pla de Petracos, near Castell de Castells (25 Km.)
- Moorish castle remains in Orba (4 Km) and The Gallinera Valley (15 Km)
- Iberian and Moorish settlements in the Segaria mountain range and the Alcalá valley
- The Albufera of Valencia (90 Km.)
- Antique and flea markets (Jalón – 10 Km.; Pedreguer - 6 Km.)
- Crafts centres: pottery in Orba (6 Km.) and basketwork in Gata de Gorgos (10 Km.).
- Four Theme Parks in Benidorm (30Kms). Terra Mítica, Terra Natura, Aqualandia and Mundomar.
- Water Sports and Beaches:
If water sports and beaches are your passion, then only 10-20Km from Benimeli, you will find some of the best, sandy beaches along the Mediterranean Coast (Denia & Oliva); ideal for swimming, sun-bathing, wind-surfing, kite-surfing, water-skiing, snorkelling, boat trips or yacht
Walking routes: The proximity of several mountain ranges offers the possibility of walking, hiking or trekking routes, mountaineering, speleology, rappel or canyon descent, (PRV -147; Hell’s Ravine in the Laguar Valley: 7Km)
- Cycling and Mountain Biking:
A network of paths crisscross the Rectoria Valley between orange groves and the Girona river bed, making this an ideal location for cyclists. The nearby Coll de Rates (10Km) with its serpentine curves and breathtaking views forms part of Spain’s Vuelta Ciclista (Cycling Tour). From Gandia (25Km), there is a cycling route along the old Gandia-Alcoy narrow gauge railway. (Greenways)
- Horse-riding:
There are several horse-riding stables only a few kilometres from the village, which offer excursions or classes. (La Sella, Oliva, Benissa)
- Tennis:
Tennis courts in the next village (1Km); Go-karting; Mini-golf;
- Bird watching:
The proximity of the Pego marshlands and the Montgo Nature parks make this area a bird-watcher’s paradise, where many and rare species of birds can be seen throughout the year (eagles, heron, egret, little bittern, warblers, larks, blue rock thrush, etc)
