Ashtree Cottage is designed for comfort and warmth in an Irish country cottage style and has been built with eco-friendly principles using the Geo-thermal system.
As soon as you step into The Ashtree Cottage you'll notice the attention that's been given to every detail. There are beams in the raised ceiling and Celtic ironwork lamps, stained glass in the front door and an Italian tiled floor.
Features:
- There are 3 bedrooms in the Ashtree Cottage.(Two double and a twin)
The Master Bedroom has a queen size French bed that has a beautiful carved headboard. There is a dressing table and chair, a large wardrobe and rocking chair. The look is inviting and serene. Walls are in shades of magnolia and cream with pine floor.
The second bedroom has a custom-made King size double bed which can be divided to make twin beds.
The third bedroom has twin beds and is in blue tones.
Both rooms have desk/dressing table and chair, large wardrobes and tiled en suites with showers.
These rooms are gracious and beautiful with patchwork quilts that will soothe your spirits.
- The kitchen area has all appliances (a microwave, dishwasher, Free standing cooker, refrigerator and freezer, toaster, coffee maker). The walls are creamy white and the simple cupboards and dresser are in knotty pine.
- Off the kitchen, a small utility room has the a washer and dryer and ironing facilities
- The large living room, kitchen,Sitting and dining room are open-plan.
There is a big open fireplace in the living room complete with large chimney and mantle piece.
The custom-made sofas, upholstered in rich burgundy fabric, flank the fireplace.
Should you like the novelty of lighting the fire, please come to the main farmhouse for peat -given to you with pleasure!
There is a TV and DVD and stereo system
The dining table seats eight people.
- French doors in the dining area open onto a private patio that has outdoor furniture, a pergola and a barbecue
- Heating and hot water is provided by the geo-thermal system.
The cottage has under-floor heating and thermostats in the bedrooms.
- Children are warmly welcomed here.
They have a play area with swing and sand pit and large garden space to play in.
- For the fisherman a very well equipped tackle and bait storage facility is at the rear of the cottage
- Your pets are welcome- An excellent kennel with fridge and shower are provided for their comfort.
Locality (close to: Banagher)
Located on a farm only 2.5 miles from Banagher town in Co. Offaly, Ireland, the Cottage has the feeling of seclusion while it is actually well placed to tour the West of Ireland and is within easy walking distance of the River Shannon!
Banagher town was originally a small port in the 18th century, and is now a major centre for Boating activities as well as Fishing and Watersports
As far as entertainment goes, Banagher has a wonderful array of both restaurants and pubs. You can enjoy a quiet drink or follow the sound of singing and traditional music which can be heard on the street to a lively music sessions which can last into the small hours especially during the long summer evenings.
Walking:
There are several walking routes in the area including the Offaly Way on the banks of the Grand Canal, The 66km Slieve Bloom Way passes deep glens and beautiful waterfalls. The Clara Bog, the Lusmagh bog Walk, Lough Boora Parklands and Portumna Forest Park allow you to walk on a flat landscape of unbelievable natural beauty and rare animal and plant species. All these walks promises the tranquillity of an unspoiled landscape.
Fishing:
Flowing through Lusmagh and Banagher the River Shannon is the major waterway in Ireland. The Little Brosna joins the Shannon at Lusmagh and the Grand Canal joins the Shannon just up stream at Shannon Harbour as also does the Brosna River. All these water ways provide unbeatable angling. There are great stocks of fish including salmon, trout, bream, tench and perch in abundance. Pike fishing is particularly rewarding. The area boasts excellent fishing access and facilities, bait shops and outboard boat hire.
Golf:
There are at least five excellent golf courses within easy reach of Banagher.
The closest, the 18 hole Birr Golf Course is only 8 miles away.
Other courses include: Roscrea Golf Course, Tullamore Golf Club, Esker Hills Golf Course, Glasson Golf and Country Club.
There is a fine pitch and putt course in Banagher itself.
Bog Rail Tour:
Clonmacnoise and West Offaly Railway gives you the opportunity to enjoy a guided 5.5 circular train-ride through a raised bog- the Backwater Bog. Don't miss it!
Birr Castle Demesne:
Features Irelands Historic Science Centre. In the Grounds is the Great Telescope built by the Earl of Rosse in the 1840's and the most wonderful gardens you will want to visit.
Cruises on the River Shannon:
The Viking I takes you back 1200 years to when Viking War bands roamed and pillaged in these waters.The Clonmacnoise Cruise Stops over at the Nonastic Site for one Hour. Scheduled cruises daily from The Strand, Athlone
Equestrian Activities:
There are a number of Riding Centres in the area including Kinnitty Castle Equestrian Centre and Birr Equestrian Centre.
You can trek on bog lands and forest trails with wonderful views of the Slieve Bloom Mountain, Programs tailored to individuals needs.
Tullamore Dew Heritage Centre:
Tour the site of the original Tullamore Dew Distillery. It will take you through life in a small Irish town from the early 1800s onwards as well as showing how whiskey is made - finish with a complimentary glass of Tullamore Dew or Irish Mist Irish whiskey liqueur.

Tariff Range: from 300 to 450 EUR per week

Other prices (depending on availability)
3 nights in Low Season: 225 euro
3 nights in Mid Season: 250 euro
3 nights in High Season: 300 euro
Christmas and New Year: 400 euro per week
Midweek and Weekends: €200-€300
A deposit of €100 would be appreciated when booking and the balance when you arrive at the Chestnut Cottage.
