Locality (close to: Roccadaspide)
The countryside around Quaglia is astonishingly rich with wooded mountains, fruit trees and populated by foxes and wild boar.
With the trout-rich river cooling and irrigating the land, the area is surprisingly lush and temperate for southern Italy.
The landscape you can enjoy is a typical one of the National Park of Cilento, with its luxuriant vegetation, the crystal clear streams, and the wide range of wildlife.
Busy fishing villages sit at the foot of steep cliffs; beautiful blue seas are caught in glimpses through the lemon trees.
There is the bustle and buzz of Naples, the romance of chic Capri and the spas of Ischia, Greek temples at Paestum.
This has been the playground of the discerning holidaymaker for millennia – even the ancient Romans came here to unwind.
Venturing further afield, ensure you visit the caves of Castelcivita and Pertosa. This is an extraordinary day, as you explore by boat these subterranean caverns, hung with stalactites and eroded over millennia from the soft limestone.
The famous Greek temples of Paestum are nearby – a very good new museum makes this a fun and educational day out. And the lovely resorts of Amalfi, Positano, Ravello and the Isle of Capri are all within easy reach, as are Pompeii and Mount Vesuvius.
Another must-see is Roscigno Vecchio, a latterday Pompeii. The hamlet was abandoned at the beginning of the 20th century. Frozen then in the 1800s it is an extraordinary museum piece. And there are literally dozens of places to enjoy the Mediterranean, from the lovely little port of Agropoli, with its traditional bars and restaurants, to the beautiful beaches of the bay of Trentova.
In the heart of a beautiful National Park, with one foot in the sea and the other in the lovely wooded hills of Campania, Agriturismo Quaglia is unspoiled, unchanged but not remote. Travel from Naples is simplicity itself and the nearest major towns are Eboli, Battipaglia and Salerno.
