Casa Villatalla

Accommodation (Bed & Breakfast Guest House, sleeps: 10)
Villatalla is a very special place, and we hope you will find it so too, either simply to relax in, or as a temporary home from which to explore this magical part of the world.
Facilities:
- Bedrooms
Casa Villatalla has 5 double bedrooms for guests (Quercia, Timo, Ginestra, Corbezzolo and Rosmarino, which are all names of native plants that grow in our grounds), each with its own ensuite shower room (with hairdryer), and each has either a balcony or terrace adjacent.
All bedrooms are comfortably furnished, and in the cooler months benefit from modern central heating with individual thermostat control. Windows are double-glazed.
One of the rooms (Quercia) has a double bed, and the others all have twin beds, but these are of such a design that they can be joined together to make a double bed if guests wish it.
There are tea and coffee-making facilities in each room.
- Sitting-room
The sitting-room contains comfortable armchairs and sofas where guests can chat, read or relax, or in winter simply enjoy the warmth of the open log fire.
There is a library of books, and lots of information about nearby places to visit and events to take part in.
WIFI and a laptop are available for those who wish to check emails etc.
- Dining-room/Terrace
In summer, breakfast is normally served on the terrace outside. From here there are wonderful views over the surrounding hills and valleys. In the cooler seasons, meals are taken in the dining-room.
Dinner is sometimes available to our guests if pre-booked.
- Grounds
There is a quiet courtyard to the side of the house, a shady terrace that extends along the whole of the rear, and a further terrace at the front, below the level of the house, which is dominated by an oak tree.
At one end of the lower terrace is our swimming pool (approx 12 x 6 metres) around which there are sun loungers and umbrellas available. We ask our guests to bear in mind that use of the pool is at their own risk.
There are shady spots in the garden amongst an abundance of indigenous plants such as rosemary, thyme, rock rose, strawberry trees and juniper, and there are olive trees, oak trees, pines, cypress trees, oleanders, eucalyptus, lemon trees, camphor and others. We also have 75 stunning roses of different varieties! We hope you will find it perfect for reading and contemplation, or just absorbing the natural beauty of the landscape.
- Smoking
Casa Villatalla is an entirely NO SMOKING establishment. Smokers are therefore asked to smoke outside the house only.
- Courses
We also offer Painting and Yoga Courses.

Locality (close to: Dolceacqua)
Casa Villatalla is situated in Liguria in north west Italy, with a commanding view of one of the valleys that run north-south from the mountains down to the sea. The house looks out onto a verdant, ravishing landscape; here you can be reminded that nature really does have good taste!
Villatalla is 14 kilometres from the sea by road, and 6 kilometres from Dolceacqua, which is a beautiful medieval town that lies in the Val Nervia. The house, situated just over 1100 feet above sea level, nestles in the wooded slopes above the valley, with stunning views down to the river below and up to the hills and mountains around.
The nearest airport is Nice (about an hour’s drive) where from Britain there are frequent cheap flights available from BA, BMI and Easyjet (booking well in advance can be helpful). Genoa Airport (BA and Ryanair) is just under 2 hours’ drive. Car hire is easily arranged from either airport, or alternatively we can come and pick you up.
There are so many places nearby for the discerning traveller to explore and enjoy, from the sophisticated coastal towns with their endless beaches, the famous Hanbury Gardens on the French border at La Mortola, to the amazing inland “perched” villages of Apricale, Perinaldo, Seborga and others. Up the Nervia valley beyond Pigna, the terrain becomes increasingly mountainous – within an hour you can be almost 5,000 feet up.
We are also only half an hour from the French border, so it is a short drive to some of the pearls of the Cote d'Azur such as Menton, Roquebrune, Eze, Villefranche and Monaco, and inland, the fabulous Parc National du Mercantour.
We are therefore in the fortunate position of having the best of both worlds – easy access to the Riviera coast, but also to the nearby mountains where there are any number of designated footpaths, a real treat for those who enjoy walking. The famous Alta Via dei Monti Liguri, a walking trail that runs from Ventimiglia all the way down to the border with Tuscany, is only 5 minutes' drive from here.
We feel privileged to occupy a small part of this truly magnificent landscape, and we (Marina and Roger) extend a warm welcome to all our guests who wish to come and share it with us, whether for a relaxing holiday break, a romantic weekend, a honeymoon - or perhaps as a place to recuperate after a strenuous day’s walking/exploring.
